A Quiet Forest Elopement in North Vancouver at Sunset

Some wedding days are loud and full of energy. This wasn't one of them. This day was quiet in the best possible way. These two wanted to keep their wedding completely private, so they chose a peaceful forest in North Vancouver where they could exchange vows without an audience. Just the two of them, surrounded by giant trees, with Tracey Wimperley officiating their ceremony.

Honestly, it couldn't have suited them better. When couples tell me they're thinking about eloping, this is exactly the kind of day I picture. No pressure. No timeline packed from morning until midnight. No worrying about whether everyone's having a good time… just the chance to be together. The ceremony was simple and heartfelt. Tracey has such a calm, genuine way of leading a ceremony that it never feels rehearsed. It felt more like a conversation than a performance, which was perfect for these two.

After they were officially married, we wandered through the trails while the sun slowly dropped behind the trees. There wasn't a rush to get to the next thing. We stopped whenever the light caught my eye or they found a quiet little spot to soak it all in.

Those slower moments always end up being my favourites. he best photographs usually aren't the ones where I'm asking people to smile at the camera. They're the in-between moments. A laugh after the nerves disappear. Holding hands while walking down the trail. Looking at each other and realizing, "We actually just got married."

As the evening went on, the forest started glowing with that warm sunset light photographers are always chasing. The light filtering through the trees gave everything this soft golden look without us having to do much at all.

Nature really did all the work.

North Vancouver is one of my favourite places for an intimate elopement because you don't have to go far to find somewhere that feels completely removed from the city. Within minutes, you're surrounded by forest, fresh air, and the kind of quiet that's hard to find anywhere else.

If you're someone who loves the outdoors but doesn't want to hike for hours on your wedding day, it's such a good option.

This is also why I love photographing elopements so much. Every couple gets to build a wedding day around what actually matters to them instead of trying to fit into someone else's idea of what a wedding should look like.

Sometimes that means hiking to a mountain viewpoint.

Sometimes it's saying your vows barefoot on the beach.

And sometimes it's simply standing beneath the trees at sunset with your favourite person while the rest of the world fades into the background.

Days like this are a good reminder that a wedding doesn't have to be big to feel unforgettable.

If you're planning your own North Vancouver elopement and you're looking for someone to help with locations, timelines, or simply document the day as it naturally unfolds, I'd love to help you create something that feels like you.
