Vancouver Photographer at the Public Library and Brix & Mortar

Dave & Alyssa's Rainy Brix & Mortar Wedding in Vancouver

Rain wasn't exactly part of the plan, but if you ask me, it suited Dave and Alyssa's wedding perfectly.

The day started at the Hotel Georgia where Alyssa got ready. There was a calm energy all morning. No rushing around, no big productionβ€”just family, a few close friends, and the anticipation of finally seeing each other.

We met at the Vancouver Public Library for their first look. I've photographed there quite a few times over the years, and it's one of those places that always works. Between the concrete architecture, long walkways, and covered spaces, it's a great option when Vancouver decides to do what Vancouver does best.

Dave's face when he turned around said everything. Alyssa walked up behind him and from that point on they barely stopped smiling. They forgot I was even there, which is usually when the best photos happen.

The rain came and went throughout the afternoon, but nobody seemed to care. We wandered around downtown with umbrellas, ducked into covered spots when we needed to, and made the most of it. Honestly, rainy wedding days usually slow everything down in the best way. Couples stay close, there's less pressure to stick to a perfect timeline, and everyone just leans into whatever the day brings.

Their ceremony at Brix & Mortar felt exactly like the rest of the dayβ€”small, relaxed, and incredibly personal. It's easy to see why so many couples choose this venue. Hidden away in Yaletown, it feels tucked from the city without actually leaving downtown. Even with grey skies overhead, the brick courtyard had so much character.

Rainy weddings are often my favourite weddings.

Not because everything goes perfectly, but because people stop worrying about perfect altogether.

As a Vancouver photographer, I've learned that weather almost never matters as much as people think it will. What sticks with you are the hugs, the laughter, the way someone looks at their partner during the ceremony, or how they squeeze each other's hand while walking through the rain.

Dave and Alyssa's wedding was full of those moments.

If you're planning a wedding at Brix & Mortar, thinking about doing a first look at the Vancouver Public Library, or simply looking for a Vancouver wedding photographer who prefers real moments over stiff posing, I'd love to hear what you're planning.
